Milly - Fall/Winter 2010

Fashion Week is upon us here in New York, so yesterday I went down to the tents at Bryant Park to see Milly's Fall/Winter show.

I *love* Milly's clothes. They're preppy with a modern edge, classic but young, and always lady-like. This year's collection did not disappoint.

Dream Team benefit

Last week we braved the blizzard to support The Society of MSKCC as they honored Tom Guinzburg and his two decades of service to the Dream Team.

The Dream Team is a unique, remarkable group of men and women that fulfill 'dreams' for adult patients at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. A dream can be anything from an evening at the theatre to a family trip to Disney World -- whatever the patient's wish is, the Dream Team does their best to make it happen. Over the years they've made 1500+ dreams come true and have donated more than two million dollars to fulfill these dreams. The Dream Team rocks.

Here's a shot of Michael's restaurant in midtown before the dinner:We watched the snow fall outside those floor-to-ceiling windows all night. It was beautiful.

Here I am with my husband (who was the dinner co-chair for the evening -- awesome job honey!) and our friend John Glass:

The dinner raised over $60,000 for future dreams.

Monty Monday - Trapper Hat

We've had a bit of snow this past week in CT and a certain skinny dog cannot stand it.

I thought of something that might help to keep him warm...

My dog wearing my trapper hat:
He loved putting that hat on and even wore it inside:
Toasty warm and adorable:Monty's all set for the next blizzard.

The Associates Council Lunch

Earlier this week The Associates Council of The Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering had their annual luncheon. The sold out event was held at the Oak Room in the Plaza Hotel and I was happy to be there supporting one of our favorite charities.

Here a snap of me at the luncheon, via NYSocialDiary.com:(P.S. That's my natural hair color. I dyed it back to light brown-ish last week and am enjoying the change.)

Here's DPC's full write-up on the event on NYSD.

Fashion designer Shoshanna sponsored the event, and let us have a sneak preview of her new collection. She offered attendees a 30% discount and donated 15% of all sales directly to The Society of MSKCC. Thank you Shoshanna!

I bought this dress and can't wait to wear it come summertime:The lunch raised over $100,000 for The Society's Pediatric Family Housing Endowment. This endowment pays for overnight stays when children and their families come from out of town for treatment at Memorial. I'm glad I could be a little part of such a wonderful cause.

Go Kart Racing at Grand Prix NY

Chappy and I recently spent the afternoon at Grand Prix NY, a giant indoor go kart track in Westchester County. I *love* racing -- just ask anyone that has ever been a passenger in my car -- so I was super excited to put the pedal to the metal.

The karts at Grand Prix aren't like the ones you'd find at an amusement park, these are specially designed for racing and go up to 40 mph. Vroom vroom!

We checked in and got our 'Pit Pass' bracelets:
Then we watched a video on safety and driving techniques:Next we got suited up. You wear a one-piece jumpsuit, headsock, neck collar, and helmet when you drive.

Here we are in our Grand Prix get-ups:
I looked like an astronaut and/or a bank robber in my jumpsuit and headsock:
The go karts lined up in the pit area:
Chappy ready to race:The karts are fast, responsive, and an absolute blast to drive. You're low to to ground so it feels like you're going even faster than 30-40 mph, and the track has all kinds of twists and turns to keep it interesting during the race.

Zooming around a corner:We raced in heats of 10, and aside from one time when I tried to pass Chappy on the inside but slammed into a corner instead (oops) it was so much fun.

And as it turns out, I'm not half bad at this driving thing... I placed in the top 3 and beat my husband. Twice.

Big smile from this speed racer:Grand Prix NY.

Monty Monday - My Pillow?

Since my shoulder surgery I've been sleeping on my back so that I don't roll over on to my still tender arm. I also put this U-shaped pillow around my neck so I can have my head supported as I doze off:This weekend I woke up early, removed the U pillow, and went downstairs to make an espresso.

A few minutes later I returned to find this happening in my bed:Monty, fast asleep avec my neck pillow.

He's been watching me sleep with that U pillow for the past four months and I guess he wanted to give it a go.

The U pillow works well for the little guy; he was out cold:Shhhh, let's not tell him he's got it on backwards.
