Monty Monday - Quest Magazine

Monty is featured in the current issue of Quest magazine:
My little guy is part of the 'My Favorite Things' column, where pets tell readers all about what they love most. He's one talented model:I gave Monty a nice piece of smoked salmon for being so well-behaved while we shot that photo.

SMSKCC Spring Ball 2010

Earlier this month we went to the Society of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Care's 3rd annual Spring Ball. It was a super glamorous evening for one of our favorite causes.

The ballroom of the Pierre was covered in thousands of butterflies by Bronson Van Wyck. It was magical:After dinner, the one and only Mary J. Blige performed. She sang U2's 'One', Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven', and her own 'No More Drama'. She was awesome.

She had everyone dancing in the aisles, including Chris Meloni from Law & Order SVU:
All smiles with Chappy at the end of a very fun evening:For more information on the Society of MSKCC, please visit their website.

The Hat Luncheon 2010

Earlier this month I went to the Frederick Law Olmstead Awards (aka "the Hat Luncheon") in Central Park. The luncheon benefits the Central Park Conservancy and it was a huge success -- they raised over 2.5 million dollars that afternoon.

Everyone attending this party wears a hat -- there are big sun hats, hats with flowers and bows, hats with statues on them, baseball caps, berets, etc. It's quite the sight, and it's a lot of fun.

Here I am with my girlfriends Barbara, Kathleen, and Alison:
The sea of hats from above:
My view from down in the fray - hats galore and the Vanderbilt Gate:
The lunch is held in Conservatory Garden, a quiet, beautiful section of the park uptown:Chappy and I took our wedding photos in these gardens, so it was a special treat for me to revisit them.

There were 1,200+ women in attendance that afternoon:
Our pretty pink and green table setting:
We had 3 lovely ladies from Tiffany & Co. at our table. The were decked out in white and Tiffany Blue:
With Barbara during lunch:I wore one of my Helen Kaminski sun hats and attached fresh orchids and calla lilies to the side. (A special thanks to Dominica at Bonne Fleur for her help with my flowers.)

Spring Spirits Silent Auction Awesomeness

Earlier this month my Junior League chapter had its annual spring fundraiser, Spring Spirits. It was a huge success! We had a fun crowd (including Katie Couric), great food (we roasted marshmallows for s'mores for dessert), and a ton of fantastic silent auction items.

I asked a few of my favorite brands if they'd be willing to donate items to our silent auction, and much to my delight many of them said yes. I wanted to thank and list the companies here so they could get a shout-out for there generous, charity-minded ways.

Check out the sweet donations...

The wine was from Morrell's, my go-to guys for wine and spirits:Cheers to Morrell Wine!

Tunix gave us two of these pretty 'Peonies on Fifth' tunics. Love that graphic print:
Milly gave us this chic belted trench. The white piping is fabulous:
Bhati Beads gave us this vintage teardrop necklace. A fun statement piece:
A Salmon Cove men's buttondown and a Wm. J Mills canvas duffel bag - both classics:Salmon Cove also donated some of their perfectly fitting women's polos, a staple in my summer wardrobe. They didn't want blog readers to miss out on the fun, so they're offering 25% off all orders through June 21st. Use coupon code 'MCM' at checkout on their site.

Wm. J. Mills gave us bags galore - I didn't photograph all of them, but they were oohh'd and aahhh'd over and started many a bidding war that night. This was my favorite of their lot, a Steamer Bag in bright orange and blue.Alas, I was outbid on that bag, but I hear they're carrying them at Jeffrey New York now.

Tucker Blair donated this snappy fly-fishing needlepoint belt:
Napoleon Perdis donated a ton of skincare products and makeup. I use/love their lip gloss:
Japonesque gave us these tools of the trade:
Victorinox donated this package of travel accessories. The packing sleeves looked particularly nice/useful to this frequent flier:
Stephen Knoll salon gave us products galore and a cut/style/color with Stephen Knoll himself. A mini-makeover package:I was the winning bidder on this one and I'm quite excited about it. I'm going to let my hair grow out a bit and then I'll visit SK. I can't wait to see what he does with my locks.

A 'Ladies Day Away' package at Aetheria Spa. It was right before Mother's Day, so the aromatherapy, massage, and facial combo was a hot ticket that night:
A stay at City Club Hotel in midtown, a European-style boutique property in the heart of it all:
A platinum pair of Sperry Top-Sider's authentic originals:This color is a limited edition in honor of Sperry's 75th anniversary. I think they're a cheeky and fun take on a classic.

Here are a couple of snaps of the auction set-up before the party rush:Again, thank you to all the generous companies that donated to our event. We had one killer silent auction thanks to you guys!

The Penny Loafer: Dressed in White

The longer days and milder temps of springtime make me fling open my closet doors, grabbing for my whites. The old-school view would give me pause. Traditionally, whites have been out of style from Labor Day to Memorial Day—no white shoes, no white pants, and no white handbags allowed until the last Monday in May.

But that's too rigid for this white jeans-loving blogger, and luckily the rules have relaxed...

Monty Monday - Lake Placid

Last week Chappy and I took a little vacation in the Adirondacks to celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary.

We stayed at the Lake Placid Lodge, a beautiful property that's very friendly to four-legged family members:We were thrilled Monty could come along on this trip. The three of us had a blast hiking, exploring, and relaxing together.

The boys having a peek at the hotel grounds:The hotel's location is ideal -- there are miles of trails within minutes. It's gorgeous land that's perfect for hiking.

Monty mid-hike one afternoon, enjoying the sunshine and the forest:
Agile Monty negotiating a raised walkway:
Monty getting muddy during a soggy section of the trail:
With me by the lake (after I cleaned off the mud):It was a little too cold for swimming, but the view from the shore was superb.

...and enjoying a late night check of the markets with Chappy:
We took a small boat out for a cruise around Buck Island one morning. Monty came with and loved being out of the water:
